The Story
Stal De Sjiem, located in Weerselo, is run by Jeroen Dubbeldam and his partner Annelies Vorsselmans. The stable is named after the top horse “De Sjiem”, on which Jeroen has achieved brilliant results in the past, including the individual gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
De Sjiem was the king of the stable and he was greatly loved by the staff. De Sjiem was spirited, and Jeroen had many sleepless nights because of him. Nevertheless, the achievements came after all the hard work they put in together. Not only did De Sjiem win an Olympic gold medal in 2000, but a year later he also won the 5* Grand Prix of Aachen. This is also the place where he said farewell to the sport in 2005 and was able to enjoy his retirement at Stal De Sjiem, where he peacefully passed away in 2022 at an age of 33.
After De Sjiem, other horses took over. Jeroen achieved bronze at the European Championships with Nassau in San Partigiano in 2005, both individually and with the Dutch team. In 2006, he became World Champion with Up And Down with the Dutch team in Aachen, and repeated this feat a year later in Mannheim during the European Championships. In 2009, Jeroen and Van Grunsven Wispher won the gold medal at the Dutch Championsips and the 3* Grand Prix of Arnhem. Van Grunsven Simon also has several Grand Prix victories to his name, winning the 5* Grand Prix of Spruce Meadows and the World Cup in Verona in 2010, along with a 3rd place in the World Cup Final in Leipzig. Meanwhile, Jeroen had Quality Time TN under his saddle, on which he became Dutch Champion and won the 5* Grand Prix in San Partigiano. Together with these two horses Jeroen rode to the top of the world rankings. After saying farewell to Simon, Utascha SFN came to Jeroen’s stables to win the World Cup in Oslo and the 3* Grand Prix of Arnhem. Then the successes with Zenith SFN, Jeroen’s second famous horse after De Sjiem. They became World Champion, both individually and with the Dutch team in Normandy in 2014. A year later, they repeated this feat at the European Championships in Aachen.
Now Jeroen focuses on training and educating young talented horses and riders to prepare them for the highest level of the sport, together with Annelies. Some examples that are already making significant progress are Investment, Juwel SFN, Kurly V/D Gorten and Kulottie.
